La Reina del Sur 2: How it Compares to the First
In the second part of "La Reina del Sur," Teresa Mendoza's biggest fear as a mother comes to life as her daughter was abducted by her enemies back in Mexico. The man who she got arrested several years ago has been released and has sent his crew to capture Sofia Mendoza in Italy to use her as bait. Epifanio Vargas lost his chances to become the president of Mexico in the past and now that he is a free man, he feels that he can try to achieve his dreams once more.
To start a new life with her daughter, the lady we have grown to love on screen gives herself a new name and moves to Italy. The new chapter of the show begins with her having a nightmare of the worst possibility of what could happen to her daughter: her husband coming back to life to retrieve Sofia. The moment she wakes up, Sofia is able to tell what her nightmare was.
On that very day, Sofia competed in what appeared to be a color guard competition and while no one was looking, you see "Batman" grabbing her and running off. Just his face alone tells you that nothing good is going to happen. There Mendoza's momma bear instincts kick at the moment she realizes what happened.
Throughout the new chapter, you can see that Sofia carries the rage of her mother and is able to defend herself for the most part. At the beginning of her abduction, she was able to get out of the trunk of a car. Further ahead, she manages to escape from the house she was literally trapped in, but the price to pay was the life of the woman who was in charge of her for the time being, Morgana.
The first chapter of Teresa's life was intense, dramatic and suspenseful. She went through literally every trial that I could think of. Mendoza was also in jail for a couple of years. I honestly didn't know what could even happen to her in the second chapter besides the possibility of her going back to Mexico to finish her vengeance. But of course, the writers had to come directly for the audience's hearts and center the story around the abduction of Teresa Mendoza's daughter.
The storyline of the second chapter is all over the place. No, not like your typical telenovela. Let's start with (major spoiler alert) the death of detective Pablo Flores. He was one of the few good guys of the entire series. His death was so brutal and traumatizing but the way he acted in that scene was so out of character. Flores would never put himself in that bad of situation. He was so smart and knew his limits when it came to Teresa Mendoza.
Then one big thing that I still cannot comprehend is why Batman is still following Vargas' orders knowing that he sent for his family to be killed. I left off at episode 11 which isn't very far, but there is already too much that I don't understand. Then there is Lupo who I figured Mendoza would end by now. The way she reads people in this season is so delayed, it is so frustrating. That was her thing in the first chapter, knowing someone so well that the moment they betrayed her she would end them.
The scenery and videography of the second chapter are much nicer and adds to the intensity of the storyline. The music really completes each and every scene. You can tell that this was such an expensive telenovela to produce. Especially the scenes where Zurdo Villa hosts a party. The details in those scenes are absolutely insane. All I can say is, that man sure loves his fireworks.
In conclusion, I might like the way the second chapter looks but I loved the first chapter. The storyline was so powerful and nothing compares to the satisfaction I felt, in the end, knowing that Mendoza was safe from her husband who betrayed her.

I've been watching the first season, and it really is a pretty wild storyline. I don't think I would watch the second season based on what you're saying haha. I would love to watch the newer season with better cameras and production that is a little more technically smooth, but I agree that Teresa has already been through so much in this first season. It would be really hard to watch her go through another struggle with someone she loves, especially when that person is her daughter because I'm sure she loves her more than any of her previous lovers.
