  1. I think that Netflix presents unique advantages and disadvantages for telenovela production. Because it makes them easier to access than ever before for non-Latino viewers, it increases the chances of them being seen and the viewer getting hooked. On the other hand, because of the ease and availability of streaming services, we have all become lazy viewers. We all have a show that easily serves as "background noise" because we're familiar with it and don't really need to pay attention. Many times, because we have so much stimulus during the day thanks to the over-abundance of technology, TV time is for zoning out, not paying attention to subtitles and trying to follow a story in another language. I think this and the overabundance of choice are some of the biggest challenges. Have you ever felt like you don't want to commit to a long show because of how many other options there are out there? Americans are not used to the length of Telenovelas and the level of commitment that usually comes along with watching them. Sadly, telenovelas may have to change their format a bit to make it in the American market - Americans are used to everyone else adapting to their standards.

    1. In my opinion, I feel that honestly there are a lot of people who look for shows on Netflix that have a large number of episodes due to binge culture. Some people want something that will keep them entertained long-term instead of a show that they can finish in two weeks. I feel that telenovelas on Netflix is a good addition for those specific viewers that are looking for something to binge, especially during times like these when we have more free time in quarantine. When people look for background shows they often turn to old classics that they've seen like The Office or Family Guy. While I agree that people search for shows for background purposes, I also believe telenovelas have the potential to thrive on streaming services.

  2. I think that incorporating more telenovelas on Netflix will help with having more representation in countries like the US. As you can see Netflix has introduced new shows like 'On my block' and 'Gentefied' which provides a more accurate and deep representation of the hispanics in the USA. Having more telenovelas on Netflix will help more people understand and watch a part of our culture, especially telenovelas like Leonardo Padron's that even though are entertaining they also have a lot to teach. Every time somebody asks me for something to watch in Netflix I always recommend something is Spanish because I think it helps people learn about a different culture, so it would be nice to have some more telenovelas added.
